Overview

Al Journal by Liwan is a collection of essays, articles, reviews, and visuals exploring contemporary design themes across the Southwest Asian and North African regions and beyond.

Featuring pioneering Qatari creatives, the journal connects local and global design voices and encourages collaboration and commentary on creative, cultural, and intellectual matters. Special guest-edited issues focus on semi-annual themes. The central theme of this second edition is ‘Design and Resilience’ — a look at how design can be a tool for empowerment, organisation, and self-assertion, and at how it can address today’s local and global challenges, especially in conflict zones or environmental crises.

Al Journal will be printed biannually. We hope you enjoy the second edition.

الجورنال عبارة عن مجلة أعدَّها ليوان تحوي مجموعة من البحوث القصيرة، والمقالات، والمراجعات، والمواد المرئية التي تتناول مواضيع تتصل بالتصميم المعاصر في منطقة جنوب غرب آسيا وشمال أفريقيا وما حولها.

يضم الجورنال رواد الإبداع القطري، ويمد جسور التواصل بأصوات التصميم المحلية والعالمية، كما يشجع التعاون والتعليق على الإبداع، والثقافة، والفكر. تُركز الإصدارات الخاصة، التي يشارك في تحريرها العديد من المساهمين على مواضيع نصف سنوية. الموضوع الرئيسي لهذا العدد الثاني هو "التصميم والصمود"، مُلقيًا نظرة على كيفية استخدام التصميم كأداة للتمكين والتنظيم وتأكيد الذات، وكيف يُمكنه مُعالجة التحديات المحلية والعالمية الراهنة، لا سيما في مناطق الصراع أو الأزمات البيئية.

سيطبع "الجورنال" مرتين سنويًا. نأمل أن تستمتعوا بالعدد الثاني.
