Munira Khayyat
Munira Khayyat is an anthropologist whose research explores life in war, genealogies of empire, and theory from the South. Her first book, A Landscape of War: Ecologies of Resistance and Survival in South Lebanon (2022), examines war as both a site of destruction and an environment of living, based on fieldwork in villages along Lebanon’s southern border. She is working on Heart of Black Gold, a book exploring empire in Saudi Arabia through a personal archive left by her grandfather, an early ARAMCO employee. Khayyat has taught at AUC, AUB, and NYUAD, and holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Columbia University.
